Most grand opera houses and concert halls remain dim during the summer. However, extraordinary performances can still be experience as several regions worldwide are offering opera in other venues such as out of doors or in smaller auditoriums.
From 7 June through 13 August, Holland Park in west London hosts a summer opera festival, including Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and Verdi's "Rigoletto." Bring along a blanket and gourmet basket to picnic on, and listen away.
The Santa Fe Opera offers a July and August summer season of five operas, including Puccini's "Madame Butterfly." These performances will be played outdoors in the hillside-built Crosby Theater.
