The Kentucky Derby may be a month away, but it is not just a one day affair in Louisville. Beginning April 7th and holding on until May 6 the annual Derby Festival takes place. This year´s theme is entitled “SuperFest” celebrates TV, film and comic book Superheroes, as well as dauntless heroes from the Blue Grass state. The mascot of this year´s event is named Super Festival Fan and will represent the Derby Fest.
Some of jubilations include the “Thunder over Louisville” spectacular over Louisville that many believe to be the largest display in North America. “The Grand Balloon Race” of hot air balloons, the “Great Steamboat Race” on the Ohio River, and the Derby Marathon and mini-Marathon are just a few of the jammed packed events plan.
Another highlight is star gazing of Hollywood celebrities and “Red Carpet” divas that flock to the Kentucky Derby Festival's Celebrity Luncheon each year at Churchill Downs. Stars in the Pegasus Parade and other Festival events are on hand leading up to the exciting and captivating day at the races. Last year´s attendees included Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and Bethenny Frankel are just a few seen dressed to the nines.
